Ooty is a shorter derivative of its original name Udhagamandalam and is also called Ootacamundi. This is a magnificent hill station in Tamil Nadu and is considered a heaven for nature lovers all over the country. It is surrounded by the Nilgiri Hills and is popularly known as the Queen of Hills. Ooty is most famous for its tea plantations. It is surrounded on all sides by the towering Nilgiris, evergreen firs and of course small and large lakes. The misty blue mist of these mountains is said to originate from the eucalyptus trees that cover those hills, or perhaps from the Kurinji flowers, which are blue in color and bloom every 12 years.
