Mudumalai National Park is a national park in the Nilgiri Mountains in Tamil Nadu. The sanctuary is composed of hills and valleys with several perennial streams and swamps. The area is home to several endangered and vulnerable species including Indian elephant, Bengal tiger, gaur and Indian leopard. There are at least 266 species of birds in the sanctuary, including critically endangered Indian white-rumpled vulture and long-billed vulture.
Vedanthangal Bird Sanctuary is located in the Chengalpattu District in the state of Tamil Nadu. Vedanthangal is home to migratory birds such as pintail, garganey, gray wagtail, blue-winged teal, common sandpiper and the like. It is said that such a vast number of birds are attracted to this location because of its various small lakes that prove to be a fertile feeding ground for the birds. More than 40,000 birds (including 26 rare species), from various parts of the world visit the sanctuary during the migratory season every year.
Point Calimere Wildlife and Bird Sanctuary is located adjacent to and east of Kodikkarai and Kottaikadu villages of Tamil Nadu. Grizzled Squirrel Wildlife Sanctuary (GSWS) or Srivilliputhur Wildlife Sanctuary is blessed with diverse habitats, there are grasslands, wet evergreen forests, semi evergreen, moist deciduous, open deciduous and closed deciduous. Lots of trees adore this sanctuary, which are the abode to millions of squirrels living here.
Anamalai Tiger Reserve, earlier known as Indira Gandhi Wildlife Sanctuary and National Park is a protected area in the Anaimalai Hills of Coimbatore District and Tiruppur District, Tamil Nadu. Mukurthi National Park is protected area located in the western corner of the Nilgiris Plateau west of Ootacamund hill station in the northwest corner of Tamil Nadu.The park is characterized by montane grasslands and shrublands interspersed with sholas in a high altitude area of high rainfall, near-freezing temperatures and high winds. It is home to an array of endangered wildlife, including royal Bengal tiger and Asian elephant, but its main mammal attraction is the Nilgiri tahr. The park was previously known as Nilgiri Tahr National Park.
Guindy National Park is a protected area of Tamil Nadu, located in Chennai. The park is an extension of the grounds surrounding Raj Bhavan, formerly known as the Guindy Lodge. It extends deep inside the governor's estate, enclosing beautiful forests, scrub lands, lakes and streams. The park has a role in both ex-situ and in-situ conservation and is home to 400 blackbucks, 2,000 spotted deers, 24 jackals, a wide variety of snakes, geckos, tortoises and over 130 species of birds, 14 species of mammals, over 60 species of butterflies and spiders each, a wealth of different invertebrates—grasshoppers, ants, termites, crabs, snails, slugs, scorpions, mites, earthworms, millipedes, and the like.
